I recently finished a very detailed painting which took me about six weeks of intensive work to complete.
Now I'm taking a short break. I always intend to launch straight into a new painting, but then find I'm exhausted by the end of such a long period of focus and I need to recharge by sketching, reading, taking photographs.
Up Close, Late Afternoon is inspired by a tree in my neighbourhood. It's next to the
local footy ground. I love that. The fact that we are surrounded by
these beautiful trees in the most prosaic places.
